HK performing artists hold charity concert(2011年04月02日)
More than 200 Asian singers and actors staged a large concert in Hong Kong on Friday to support victims of Japan's earthquake and tsunami.
Hong Kong actor Jackie Chan called for the event.
Two Japanese singers who took part in the concert are from tsunami-hit areas. Masao Sen is from Iwate and Masatoshi Nakamura is from Miyagi.
The concert began with a moment of silence for the casualties in Japan.
Then the participants together sang a song based on a poem called "Be not defeated by the rain" written by Kenji Miyazawa, a legendary poet from Iwate.
The 3-hour concert was broadcast live. Organizers say that by Friday night they had received pledges of nearly 18.6 million Hong Kong dollars, or 2.4 million US dollars.
A woman in the audience said Japan surely will recover from the disaster.
In an interview with NHK, Jackie Chan said he wants to help the Japanese smile again.
