In 1624 Imperial Japan, Shogunate General Hidetada has died under mysterious circumstances. It is soon revealed that the General was poisoned because he did not want his eldest son to be heir, because he is disfigured and suffers from a stammer. A war between the eldest son and his younger brother soon erupts, and a group of up and coming Shogun warriors is called into action, each taking respective sides. This is all being “controlled” by the Yagyu family, a group of Shogun who have trained the general’s family in fencing and swordsmanship. As well as this, another group of imperial nobles is trying to use the fledgling Shogun warriors to weaken the power of the Shogunate and restore actual power to the Emperor.
