最后不得不提的是该剧的主题曲——为了不输给原作的气势，剧组一开始就把主题曲的演唱者风格定位为实力、型格与新鲜。最后他们找来早于1984年出道并以混合punk、funk、 rap、 metal多种音乐风格为自身特色，以热血而具爆炸性的演出著名的摇滚乐团RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS为创作该剧的主题曲。当乐团收到《Death note》的英文版时当即决定为该剧提供主题曲，最后在2006年5月10日发行的专辑《Stadium Arcadium》中选定了《Dani California》一曲为该剧的主题曲，并抢先发行了该曲的单曲版。在本周的当代摇滚单曲榜中，这首《Dani California》连续第四周称雄。而在主流摇滚单曲榜中，《Dani California》也成功蝉联了新一周的冠军。相信这首主题曲必定能够为夜神月与L激烈的脑力大战增添一份紧张。
