内容介绍 : | Painter Kong Ha thinks of the past when he hears the masterpiece of opera star Tang Man-mei, 'Flowers drop in July'. Kong Ha and Man-mei, were good friends, first meeting in Zhuhai. Time flashbacks to July 7, 1937. When the "Lugouqiao Incident" erupts, Man-mei send her mother to Haojiang. When Guangzhou is occupied, Man -mei, Kong Ha and his mother flee to Qujiang where they stay with Kong Ha's classmate Wong Yan. To meet their immediate needs, Kong Ha becomes a street painter. Later he meets Ko Man-sau, a noble lady who, out of admiration , wants to seek a job for Kong Ha using her own influences. However, Kong Ha is unwilling to entrust his affairs to the rich and powerful, thus he keeps aloof from Man-sau. Soon Kong Ha's mother falls ill, Man-sau thus invites the mother and son, together with Man-mei to stay in her house. Man-sau's father, Ko Chuen, has long been an avid admirer of Man-mei and desires to marry her. Strategically, he agrees to Man-sau marrying Kong Ha, hoping that Kong Ha will lose his feelings for Man-mei. On the big day of the ceremony, Man-mei runs away in sorrow. She goes to Haojiang to meet her mother and resumes a life of opera singing to sustain their living, even as her health starts to give way. In July 1942, Man-mei is on her deathbed. She writes to Kong Ha who rushes to her deathbed. Before she dies, Man-mei gives Kong Ha a recording of 'The autumn grave', her masterpiece. (Extracted from a newspaper synopsis.) |
