内容介绍 : | Ho Pui-fun loses her husband during the war and has to raiser her daughter on her own. Due to her straitened circumstances, Ho Pui-fun approaches Tong Put-sang for help but is tragically raped. Put-sang then tricks her into working for a bogus company which is a brothel in disguise. The old prostitute Oi-lai takes pity on Pui-fun and is willing to help her escape but Pui-fun stays on for the sake of earning money to feed her family. Pui-fun falls in love with ricksaw puller Lee Yik-man who has spent days in jail for illegal hawking. Upon his release, he goes searching for Pui-fun. Meanwhile, Yik-man's mother and brother are staying with Pui-fun. When Put-sang hears that Yik- man has come out of jail, he plots to have him killed. He also pays the landlady to have Lee's mother and Pui-fun's child evicted from the premise. Pui-fun, however, is virtually under house arrest. Her money is confiscated. One day, while escaping a raid by the police, Pui-fun and Oi-lai hide in a coffee house and there Pui-fun hears the calls of her daughter. Though happy to see her own daughter, Pui-fun feels so shamed that she goes up a tall building to jump down. Saddened by her friend's death, Oi-lai allies herself with Pui-fun's relatives and friends to bring down Put-sang. Their objective realised, the relatives and friends take a boat to travel to new pastures. (Extracted from "Original story of A couple in distress," Wah Kiu Yat Po, 1949/3/23.) |
