内容介绍 :	New Youth tells the story of a young university graduate who returns to his village and plans to establish a co-operative to launch an irrigation project. Local Uncle Five puts on a lavish welcome home party , killing pigs and lambs as sacrificial offerings. Ng thinks this is superstition. He and Uncle Five are at loggerheads. On the pretext of raising funds for draught Uncle Five pockets the money for his own purposes. Ng responds by going to the clan temple and burns down the idols. He is arrested by Uncle Five's thugs but is saved by his own brother and sister. Ng escapes to Beijing. His hatred of feudalism and concern for the people intensifies. At one point, Ng plays with the idea of becoming a monk. He is dissuaded by his friends and decides to return home once again. Ng devises a masquerade and pretends to be an official of the National Agricultural Committee entrusted with a mission by the President. He forces Uncle Five to help him raise money for the irrigation project and to establish a co-operative. Ng successfully improves the village's agriculture and breaks with the superstitious traditions.
