内容介绍 :	Ah Mui is a 10-year old orphan girl sold to Third Aunt to pay for her mother's funeral expenses. Third Aunt forces her to learn singing from Tsi Ying and to acknowledge a thug, Tai-nan Hung, as godfather so that she comes under his control to earn money.Thus, Ah Mui grows up as a wandering singer. Her childhood sweetheart is Sek Sun, who is poor and cannot afford to free Ah Mui from bondage. They elope and live together. Sek Sun then goes to work in Shanghai leaving behind a pregnant Ah Mui. At this point, Tai-nan Hung brings Ah Mui to the home of rich businessman Cheung Chuen-fat to become his mistress but Ah Mui is expelled from home by Cheung's wife. Ah Mui returns to her mother-in-law's home and gives birth to a daughter, Siu-mui. When her mother-in-law dies from an illness, Ah Mui reverts to singing to raise money for her funeral expenses. Sek Sun returns home and thinks Mui has a change of heart. He goes to the theatre to vent his anger on her. During a struggle, Sek Sun accidentally kills Third Aunt and is sentenced to life imprisonment. But the sentence is reduced to eight years after Ah Mui agrees to sleep with the military commander. Tai-nan Hung then blackmails Ah Mui and beats her up, making her unable to sing. It is now Siu-mui's burden to carry on singing to earn money. When Sek Sun is released from jail, he mistakenly thinks that Ah Mui forced their daughter to sing. As he tries to take the daughter away, Tsi Ying explains the whole situation. A reconciliation is about to take place when Tai-nan Hung reappears to demand money. Ah Mui kills Tai-nan Hung and she is sentenced to death. (Extracted from the film brochure.)
