内容介绍 :	Xiao Hulu and his wife Bai Lanhua are performers at the Triumph House, an establishment in Flower Street patronized by commoners. They have a daughter, Daping. Old Master Gao is the local tyrant. Several years later, Daping goes to school and her best friend, Lianbao, is sponsored by Hulu to pick up some skills. Later, Lianbao goes to work as an apprentice in a factory. When war erupts, Hulu and his family flee but his mother decides to stay behind. While fleeing, Hulu and his family are separated. Daping and her mother wander the streets singing for an existence and after much hardship are able to reunite with Hulu's mother in Flower Street. Daping, now a pretty young woman, continues to perform. Young Master Gao is attracted to Daping and constantly tries to woo her. Daping is warned against this by Lianbao, but to no avail. After a few years of wandering, Hulu returns to Flower Street, to his family and to performing again in Triumph House. Local security chief, Luo Tuo, forces Hulu to sing propaganda songs for the Japanese. Hulu cannot refuse but adds his own verse that curses the Japanese invaders. He is beaten up for this. After the war, Luo Tuo conspires with the police to arrest Hulu, accusing him of treason. His mother tries to intervene but is beaten up. To secure his release, Luo Tuo demands five gold pieces. After pawning everything she owns, Lanhua is able to have Hulu released but mother dies from her injuries. Not long after, war again erupts. Master Gao plans to run away. He sets fire to Flower Street to claim insurance. In the chaos, Gao and Luo Tuo are burned to death, while Young Master Gao dies in a car accident. After the fire, Flower Street is no longer the same place of old. (Extracted from the film brochure)
