内容介绍 : | To Fai-chi works as a gardener in the household of Lam Wing-chun. His daughter, Sheung-yuet, and the master's grandson, Tsi-choi, are childhood sweethearts. Tsi-choi joins the army and while on leave, comes home with his best friend, Man Ka-ling. Ka-ling's sister, Miu-ling, falls in love with Tsi-choi, while Ka-ling has his eyes on Sheung-yuet. However, the lovers remain deeply attached to each other. Wing-chun is keen to see his grandson marry Miu-ling, but Tsi-choi declines. The lovers go on holiday and Sheung-yuet becomes pregnant with Tsi-choi's child. Wing-chun arranges a wedding for Tsi-choi and Miu-ling. Unable to stop the arrangement, Tsi-choi plans to elope with Sheung-yuet. Wing-chun learns of Sheung-yuet's pregnancy and does his utmost to stop the elopement. On the day of the wedding, Miu-ling learns of Tsi-choi's affair with Sheung-yuet and demands Sheung-yuet be banished. Thus, Sheung-yuet depart with her father, leaving behind the infant son. Unable to tolerate Miu-ling's treachery, Tsi-choi leaves home to join the army, and after he is wounded and hospitalised, he changes his name to Lee Choi hoping to lead a new life. Back in her village, Sheung-yuet suffers from occasional mental disorder. When Ka-ling's unit is transferred to the countryside, he sees Sheung-yuet again and once more states his intention of marriage. Lee Choi now gets promoted to higher ranks and Ka-ling recognises him as his old pal. Ka-ling next requests his sister to consent to letting her husband remarry Sheung-yuet, but Miu-ling refuses. Unable to stand the toughness, Sheung-yuet kills herself. Disheartened, Tsi-choi leaves for a distant land. (Extracted from the film brochure.) |
