内容介绍 :	Pak Kui-yan is the scion of a noble family. His wife died young and he lives with his daughter Bing-sum who is beautiful and bright. He keeps strict control over her and they lead a frugal life. A young neighbour Tsui Hok-lui is a revolutionist. He meets Bing-sum when distributing war leaflets. They then fall in love with each other. Hok-lui intends to ask Kui-yan for his blessings but Kui-yan instead arranges for Bing-sum to marry sickly Siu-tin, son of a rich benefactor, Wong Chiang-tin. However, Siu-tin dies shortly before their marriage. Following her father's order, Bing-sum observes the vow of chastity and a long period of mourning for her dead husband at the home of her in-laws. The matriarch Wong treats Bing-sum badly. Her only friend is her sister-in-law, Yee-hung. One night, Bing-sum hears familiar strains of a lute and is led by its melody to the backyard where she sees Hok-lui waiting for her there. Their meeting is spied upon by a young maid, Siu-tsui, who informs the elders. Yee- hung defends Bing-sum and claims that she is the one having an affair with Hok-lui. Later, Bing-sum becomes pregnant. Yee-hung covers it up and tells her parents that she is pregnant. She accompanies Bing-sum to the family's country house to give birth to the baby. Siu-tsui once again causes trouble and informs Yee-hung's fiance on the matter. The whole party of angry elders and family members come to the country house to settle scores. Hok-lui appears with his revolutionary army and reveals his affair with Bing-sum. Realising the truth, Wong Chiang-tin and his wife give their blessings to Bing-sum and set her free.
