内容介绍 : | Pak Hing lives in South Village with her husband, Wong Yi-keung, a farmer. Her mother-in-law and a young son are dependent on them, but the family is poor. Yi-keung is injured after working on a dam. Unable to pay medical expenses, Pak Hing goes to Guangzhou to work as a waitress. She is accused of theft by her bully master, Wu Sheung-mo, and also almost raped by a rich young client, Chu Fong-tong. Defending herself, she knocks Fong-tong unconscious. Thinking that he is dead, Pak Hing attempts to kill herself by jumping into the sea. She is saved by fishermen and taken to Blossom Village, not far from Guangzhou. In the village, Pak Hing meets superintendent Tse, head of the village hospital and a devout Christian who dedicates himself to looking after the sick . Pak Hing once again attempts suicide but is consoled by the head nurse Tse Do-zhen, who manages to convince her into taking care of the sick. Later, Pak Hing learns from the newspaper that Fong-tong is still alive, relieving her from all guilty feelings. She thus contacts her mother-in-law and son and asks them to come to Blossom Village. However, her husband is too ill to travel. The bully, Sheung-mo, wounded, seeks medical assistance at the village hospital . He threatens Pak Hing and forces her to steal hospital funds for him. However, Pak Hing's faith and dedication, plus that of the hospital staff, finally wins Sheung-mo over. He repents and surrenders to police. Several months later, they jointly founded a hospital in South Village to service the poor community. (Extracted from the film brochure.) |

I have travelled twice to Europe and America to research on the film industry there This, coupled with my experience in Lianhua, makes it clear that a project will not be successful without a thorough plan During wartime in Hong Kong, I have joined hands with missionary people and formed the Zhengguang Film Company, producing a film titled Call from the Human Race After war, Lianhua's Shanghai studio was handed over to the Kunlun and Wenhua Film Companies which managed to come up with some good productions and make contributions in the modern time' (Excerpt from a special brochure, June 1950) |
