内容介绍 :	When war breaks out, peasant Cheng Er's son, Cheng Qinggen, is drafted into the army. Cheng Er and his family are oppressed by landlord Master Bai and his son. Qinggen's wife Yu-wa is raped by Eldest Young Master Bai. Qinggen's regiment passes through his village and Qinggen takes leave to visit his family. The condition of his family and his parents' old age move Qinggen to stay behind to look after them. Eldest Young Master Bai forces Qinggen to leave the village, on the ground of him being an anti-Japanese soldier. He then demands Cheng Er's daughter Second Gal marry his fat and lazy brother. On hearing that his wife was raped by Eldest Young Master Bai, a devastated Qinggen decides to return to the army. After his departure, Yu-wa and Second Gal commit suicide out of despair over EldestYoung Master Bai's oppression. Qinggen returns after the war. Though the landlord and his son are now in prison, Qinggen is left alone of the Cheng family to grieve in front of the graves of his wife and sister. (Extracted from the film brochure.)
