内容介绍 : | Rich man Cheuk Tai-sing has an intelligent daughter Cheuk Man-kwan. Since childhood, Man-kwan has been betrothed to dandy Chan Yuen-kwong from a noble family. One day, Yuen-kwong visits the brothel and meets the local bully Sun Tsi-tsak, who had once asked for Man-kwan's hand in marriage but was rejected. A fight takes place between Yuen-kwong and Tsi-tsak. Yuen-kwong is killed by Tsi-tsak, and Man-kwan is free from the marriage bond. Tsi-tsak once again takes the opportunity to purpose but is once again rejected. Man-kwan is attracted to the poor scholar Sima Seung-yu and thus calls for public offers of marriage. Seung-yu wins his marriage bid by his musical talent with the qin. However, Cheuk Tai-sing tries to bribe Seung-yu by offering him money as a trade-in for not marrying Man-kwan. Seung-yu refuses, and together with Man-kwan, they elope that very night. The two start a drinking house in the country, both very much in love despite their straitened circumstances. Tsi-tsak gets wind of the situation and begins a campaign of ridicule. At this time, Seung-yu is called to the capital to sit for the imperial examinations, leaving Man-kwan alone to suffer Tsi-tsak's taunts. Eventually, Tsi-tsak is implicated in the murder of Yuen-kwong, the informant being the prostitute See Mung-sin. Seung-yu returns gloriously having passed the examinations and is happily reunited with Man-kwan. (Extracted from the film brochure.) |
