内容介绍 :	Ho Cheung- pak is a silkworm farmer. He lives together with his second son, Chung-shan, daughter, Wai-lan, and daughter-in-law, Suk-ching, in the countryside. His eldest son, Tai-yam, wants to get rich and keeps company with bureaucrats and businessmen in the city. This city syndicate schemes to monopolise the silk business by taking over all private silk factories.Silkworm farmers are hit hard by plummeting prices. Cheung-pak is laden with debts and his life is becoming more difficult. He writes to Tai-yam for help, but Tai-yam snubs his father, indulging in a life of decadence. Chung-shan is drafted into a local militia unit. Cheung-pak dies after beaten up by debtors. Soon, the silk industry collapses. Silk farmers rise up in rebellion against the syndicate who then retaliates by burning down the silk farms. Tai-yam loses everything and suffers from shock. He kills himself by jumping off a cliff. Chung-shan returns from the militia and leads the peasants' uprising. The peasants succeed in breaking the shackles of the oppressors and become their own masters. (Extracted from the film brochure.)
