内容介绍 : | On Ka Bo-yuk's birthday, his maid Ching-man picks some flowers and presents them as a gift to Bo-yuk. The nanny, Aunt Lee, regards the flowers as inauspicious and throws them away. That night after the banquet, Lady Ka sees Bo-yuk together with another maid Kam-chuen. She berates Kam Chuen and flogs her. Unable to take the condemnation, the girl commits suicide by throwing herself into a well. One day, when Ching-man sees servant Siu Pak court a maid, Sze Kei, in the garden, she warns the couple. The ailing Ching-man coughs blood and is brought by Bo-yuk to her room. A blood-stained handkerchief is left behind and is retrieved by Aunt Lee, who in turn informs Lady Ka. That evening, the maids Yuen-yeung and Chun -mui spot the affair between Siu Pak and Sze Kei. As Lady Ka approaches, Yuen-yeung helps the couple escape, and is in return scolded by Lady Ka. Dejected, Yuen-yeung hangs herself. A saddened Sze Kei then commits suicide by swallowing her golden earring. The ailing Ching-man learns of the news, which worsens her condition. She is thus banished to the barn by Lady Ka. On Old Madam Ka's birthday, Lady Ka sees Bo-yuk with Ching-man. She then locks Bo-yuk in his study room and reprimands Ching-man, whose health deteriorates further as a result. When Bo-yuk is finally allowed to come out to see Ching-man, she is on the verge of death. She dies after leaving a few last words to Bo-yuk. (Extracted from the film brochure) |
