内容介绍 : | Choi Yik-sau, a minister in the emperor's court, resigns because of the corrupt regime. Before he leaves, the military minister Dau arranges for his daughter So-ngo, to marry to Choi's son, Choi Cheung-chung. The marriage agreement is commemorated by the handover of a golden padlock. Minister Choi returns to his ancestral village where he dies after an illness. Several years later, Cheung-chung becomes a sau choi scholar and his mother sends Choi Yee, an elderly servant, to the capital to arrange her son's wedding. Choi Yee arranges an old maid and her son, Lo Yee, to take care of housework when he is away. In the capital, minister Dau reneges on the marriage agreement. A despondent So-ngo runs away and accompanies Choi Yee home to marry Cheung-chung. Meanwhile, Lo Yee, who craves for So-ngo, conspires with Lo Sam to steal the golden padlock. Lo Sam presents himself to minister Dau as Cheung-chung and demands marriage with So-ngo. Minister Dau yields to Lo Sam's threats and makes the latter a magistrate. Lo Yee then falsely accuses Cheung-chung of theft but the conspiracy fails. He then ambushes Cheung-chung and Choi Yee , who are on the way to the capital to sit for the imperial examinations, and drowns them in the river. Lo Yee then plans to poison Madam Choi, but kills his own mother by mistake. He accuses Madam Choi of murder and files a charge with Lo Sam. As Madam Choi is tortured, So-ngo confesses to the murder in order to save Madam Choi from further torture. She also vehemently accuses Lo Sam of being a corrupt official. An angry Lo Sam sentences So-ngo to death. On the day of execution, Cheung-chung shows up. After being rescued from the river, he went to take the imperial examination and passed to become a chong yuen scholar. So-ngo's case is re-tried and the villains ,Lo Yee and Lo Sam, are duly punished. The lovers are finally reunited. (Extracted from the film brochure.) |
