内容介绍 : | Hui Man-ying and To Ying-hing are lovers who elope to live together under the White Poplar Mountain . It is wartime. When working in the field, Man-ying is press-ganged into the army and is not heard of again. Ying-hing gives birth to a baby girl, Chui-kiu. Bowing to her parents' pressure, Ying -hing marries Koo Lau-fong, giving up Chui-kiu to be raised by a servant, Uncle Chung.Seventeen years later, Chui-kiu grows up to be a vain, pretty girl, flirting with Siu-ping, the boy next door . One day, she meets and falls for Man-ying, who now goes by the surname Chan and does not know Chui-kiu is his own flesh and blood. Chui-kiu brings Man-ying to Lau-fong's birthday celebration where he meets Ying-hing. He berates her for marrying again. To spite her, Man-ying behaves more affectionately towards Chui-kiu. That night, an anxious Ying-hing goes to Man-ying's hotel and tells him the truth. Chui-kiu finds an aloof Man-ying when she goes to see him. Chui-kiu recognises Ying-hing's handbag, which is left at Man-ying's place by mistake. Thinking that Ying-hing is having an affair with Man-ying, she confronts her. Lau-fong, now aware of the affair, assaults Ying-hing. Meanwhile, Siu-ping takes advantage of the chaos and rapes Chui-kiu. Thinking that Lau-fong has done the deed, Ying-hing intends to shoot him but is shot instead. When Man-ying and Chui-kiu arrive at the scene, a dying Ying-hing tells Chui-kiu her real identity. Siu-ping admits the wrong deed and is willing to marry Chui-kiu. Ying-hing dies in Man-ying's arms. (Extracted from the film brochure.) |
