内容介绍 :	He Weide's household is on the decline but Weide maintains an extravagant lifestyle. Thus, he has incurred heavy debts and wants his daughters to marry rich men. But when he discovers that his elder daughter Shuxia has gone on a secret date, he is enraged. Shuxia retaliates by pretending to commit suicide. When son Wenpu tries to talk his father round, he is being blamed for having an affair with a maid Ah Juan. One day, Weide receives a call from his old friend, General Mo, who is about to arrive in town and asks him to find a house for him. He sells his own coffin to raise funds for redecorating his home. Weide also asks Shuxia to entertain the general, much to her disgust. It turns out that the general has issued dishonoured cheques to finance himself in some speculative activities. He suffered heavy losses in the end and now wants to squeeze money from Weide. One day, the lotto dealer brings news that He's household has won the lottery. The winner turns out to be Ah Juan. Weide asks Wenpu to marry Ah Juan, but Wenpu refuses. Weide then tries to steal Ah Juan's sweepstake, but he fails. As a last resort, he asks Ah Juan to marry him. At this juncture, the debtors knock on the door. Wenpu comes to his father's rescue. Finally, Weide discovers that he has the sweepstake burnt together with Wenpu's other documents. Weide is dejected and realises his wrong deeds. His daughter, Shuxia, marries a servant Guixiang, the man she loves, and reconciles with her father. (Extracted from Arts and Funs, March 1950. )
