内容介绍 :	Ho Hui and Ho Fong are son and daughter of a peasant family. Fong falls in love with Ding Kwun, son of a rich family, who has just returned from the city. Wishing to marry Fong, he asks the girl's father for her hand. However, the father refuses, thinking that Ho is a devious city slicker. He also demands that they discontinue the relationship. Kwun thus buys the Ho farmland and uses it as a bargaining chip to marry Fong. Having lost his land, the Ho patriarch falls ill. The children pawn the family jewels, and without letting her father know, Fong approaches the Ding family for help. Her father learns of this and dies of a stroke. Fong marries Kwun and moves to the city. They then go overseas to do business. Hui also moves to the city to make a living, first as a rickshaw puller.One day Hui meets Mui Suet-yim, who reciprocates an earlier obligation to him by introducing him to Kong Chi-chung, a businessman. Chi-chung employs Hui, delegating important duties to the young man. At this time, Kwun returns home having failed in his business overseas. He starts an affair with an escort girl, Anna, and abandons Fong and the new born baby. After her son dies of illness, Fong, with no recourse to make ends meet, becomes a prostitute. Kwun becomes Chi-chung's business partner, and conspires with Anna to steal company funds and frame Hui, who is then dismissed by Chi-chung. A homeless and miserable Hui is now exploited by Kwun to deliver counterfeit notes. Once he discovers the nature of the goods, he informs on Kwun. Hui and his sister finally learn that city life is too devious for them. They decide to return to the village. (Extracted from the film brochure.)
