内容介绍 : | Old Mr Chan has only one son named Hing-shing, and he thinks that the scarcity of posterity is caused by the household of Wu, whose building is located just opposite to the Chans, thus depriving him of feng shui advantages. He thus sends Chui Sei-hoi, the husband of his sister, to negotiate with the Wus, asking them to dismantle their building. The Mother Wu is angry and gives Chui a good beating. Hence, the two families become enemies. Mother Wu's daughter Lin-ying and her close friend Siu-ping meet Hing-shing in the flower market at the evening of the Chinese Lantern Festival. Hing-shing loves Lin-ying at first sight. He thus entrusts Chui Sei- hoi as the matchmaker. Siu-ping is the little sister of Chui's wife, and she helps Hing-shing to meet Lin-ying again. But Old Mr Chan and Mother Wu are absolutely opposed to such a proposal because of their enmity and difference in social status. Hing-shing threatens that he will marry nobody except Lin-ying. Chui Sei-hoi, using all his great skills in negotiation, persuades the two old people into agreeing to the proposal. Unfortunately, Mother Wu kicks at Old Mr Chan by mistake in the dinner party. Hence the two households, with a history of quarrels and fighting, break up again. Lin-ying crys bitterly and runs away from home. She is molested by Pak Ping. The brothers of Lin-ying give Pak Ping a good beating. Pak Ping is the nephew of Legal Official Pak, who sends underlings to arrest Lin-ying's brothers. So Hing-shing goes home to ask for his old father's help because Legal Official Pak has owed 500 taels of gold to Old Mr Chan. Mother Wu goes to the Chans to express grateful feelings. The two old people clear all their misunderstanding and enimity, and they agree to the marriage of Hing-shing and Lin-ying. All of them have a happy Chinese New Year. |
