内容介绍 :	Though inexperienced in life, widow Chan Lai-shan is fortunate to obtain the much-needed help of a loyal maidservant Yu-yee to take care of her son Luk Tak-wai. Con man Mak Man-tung schemes to seize the Luks' family fortune by courting Shan. When Wai is six or seven, Shan remarries Tung, Yee finds that Tung harbours evil designs, she asks Shan to think thoroughly. Wai also resists Tung, but Shan acts willfully. After marriage, Tung swallows up the family property step by step. Shan loses her power, Poor Wai is always beaten and suffers from hunger. Yee regards Wai as her own son, she always takes care of him secretly. Tung then pressing Shan to death and becomes more unbridled. He stops Wai's studies and orders him to do housework. Any minor mistakes will lead to maltreatment. Yee cannot stand it anymore, she thus argues with Tung. Tung is shamed into anger and drives Yee away. Yee wants to stay even with no wages, but Tung refuses. Wai is sent to a wineshop to be a coolie. He tastes all the hardships, so he decides to find his aunt. He walks afar, uses his shoes to exchange for bread, sleeps in the mountain at night, and his clothes is torn to pieces, finally he arrives at his aunt's home. The abused Wai is saved by his stiff but kind-hearted aunt, who single-handedly brings up the child. (Continued in Part Two.)
