内容介绍 :	The story takes place in Danang in 1978, after the liberation of Vietnam. The Japanese photojournalist Akutagawa has high hopes for the future of Vietnam. He is invited by the Cultural Ministry to revisit the New Economic Zones of Danang 3 years after he has witnessed liberation there. In the streets, he accidentally becomes acquainted with a young woman, Cam Nuong. Since then scenes of social and political tragedies unfold one by one before his eyes. He sees street urchins scrambling for food in the streets and searching for valuables among dead bodies of executed prisoners. The younger brother of Cam Nuong is killed by a hand grenade while he was collecting metal in rubbish heaps. Cam Nuong's mother commits suicide after she is found to have been a prostitute. Officer Nyuyan, an old revolutionary, has been very tolerant of the activities of Akutagawa, but he fails to compete with upstarts and is sent to serve in the New Economic Zones. There, young men are sent to uncover mines and the death toll is high. A young man, To Ming, manages to bribe the officers and boards a boat. It turns out to be a trap, and all the people on board are shot, their bodies being heaped together. Eventually, Akutagawa sacrifices himself to pay for Cam Nuong and her brother to leave Vietnam.
