内容介绍 :	During Emperor Yuan's reign in the Western Han Dynasty, Han has been at peace with the northern Huns for a decade. Emperor Yuan has three thousand beauties in his palace but he is still unsatisfied. Due to the huge amount of the beauties, Emperor Yuan orders the painter-in-residence Mao Yanshou to draw portraits of each of the beauties in the palace. Emperor Yuan then selects the beauty for his entertainment with the portraits. Mao Yanshou wants a bribe from every beauty, otherwise those who do not comply will be drawn uglily. While the portrait of the newcomer Wang Zhaojun is being drawn, an aging beauty intrudes. She offers gold to Mao Yanshou for the improvement of her portrait. Not willing to bribe at first, that aging beauty is neglected for twenty years. Zhaojun scolds Mao Yanshou and for the following three years Zhaojun is neglected. One night, feeling sad and lonely, Zhaojun plays music with her pipa. Emperor Yuan passes by and hears the melancholic music of Zhaojun. Emperor Yuan enters the residence of Zhaojun and is surprised by her divine beauty. Since then Zhaojun becomes the favourite concubine of Emperor Yuan. The corruption of Mao Yanshou is disclosed, Mao Yanshou flees to the Huns and the portrait system is abolished. Mao Yanshou lies to the Tan Yu (Lord) of the Huns that Emperor Yuan sends him to arrange the peacemaking match between the Tan Yu and Zhaojun. Tan Yu sends an envoy to Han to express gratitude, but Emperor Yuan denied the matchmaking. Mao Yanshou says that Emperor Yuan has gone back on his words. The angry Tan Yu wages war to Han. Hoping to avoid war and suffering for people, Zhaojun agrees to go, but wants Mao Yanshou back for exchange. The Tan Yu wants to kill Mao Yanshou before the latter can leaks the Huns' strategic mation to Han on his return. But Mao Yanshou convinces the Tan Yu if the Tan Yu kills him, who can recognize Zhaojun, Emperor Yuan can then deceive the Tan Yu by sending someone else. So Mao Yanshou is retained from returning to Han. Zhaojun departs for the Huns after bidding farewell with her family and Emperor Yuan. During the welcome banquet for her, Zhaojun requested her portrait be sent to Emperor Yuan and the promise that the Tan Yu will not invade the territory of Han. Zhaojun scolds Mao Yanshou again for his betrayal of Han. Then Zhaojun prays by the river for the strengthening of Han. After that she throws herself into the river.
