内容介绍 : | Cheung Yau-wai has worked at the News Department of a television station for more than 10 years. He has a happy and healthy life, with a lovely wife, two daughters and a son. One day he goes to his doctor for a checkup. He is surprised to find that he has intestinal cancer and only has three months to live. He does not know how to handle this and decides not to let his family know. But the medical report has been sent to his office already. By accident, he captures a serious criminal while covering a gunfight. During the newscast, he emphasizes his role in the apprehension and makes a big deal of it all. As a result, his boss Mr. Poon believes that Yau-wai's bravado on air is because he knows he is dying of cancer. The following day, Mr. Poon and a top manager offer to triple his salary to ask him return to the station. Yau-wai's newscast has logged incredible ratings, so the station wants to exploit his health problem. He agrees but asks them to tell his wife that it is someone else who has cancer, not him. Then he convinces his wife that it is a mutually beneficial as well as a good opportunity to make money in a short time. Yau-wai becomes a hero. He begins to add his own comments in the newscasts and does not follow traditional broadcast methods. This arouses a lot of complaints but ratings go through the roof. He gets busier and busier, writing columns, shooting commercials, making movies, even hosting a 'pre-death birthday party'. His wife becomes his manager and they only have money in their minds. Their eldest daughter, Suzanne, thinks that her father is lying to everyone and she is really upset. By chance, she sees his X-rays and discovers the truth. The misunderstanding between them disappears. She insists that he should have an operation as soon as possible. Yau-wai begins to feel sick and makes up his mind to have the operation. He announces his decision during a newscast and advises to the audience not to believe everything the media presents. They should use their brains more. Then he leaves all his money to his wife... Yau-wai's operation is a success. Life goes back to normal and is quiet once again. So is the media. |
