内容介绍 :	Ma Yuen-cheung, a seaman, has an encounter with geisha girl Butterfly in Japan. He pays a debt for the geisha her. But the debtor, Asaoka Shino, is suspicious about where the money comes from, so Cheung has to pretend to be Butterfly's husband. They then really fall in love and marry. Several months later, Cheung goes back to Hong Kong and says goodbye to Butterfly, who is already pregnant. Ma returns to Hong Kong to marry Lucy Chan, the daughter of a Shipping Company Manager. Cheung misses Butterfly, he cannot go to Japan and can only write to her. Asaoka Shino wants Butterfly, so he persuades her grandfather, Fook, to hide all of Cheung's letters. Three years pass. Butterfly lives in poverty with her son, expecting Cheung to come back. At last, Cheung has a chance to go to Japan, but Lucy insists on going with him. Lucy is terrified to learn of Ma's relationship with Butterfly and succeeds in ending the lingering affair. A despondent Butterfly kills herself for love.
