内容介绍 :	Chun-hung and his wife lead a farming life. Hung's wife is capable and diligent. However, he earns quick money by smuggling and loses all the money in one night of gambling. He recklessly tries to make back the money, but is arrested and put in jail. His wife, broke and threatened by debtors, loses her eyesight and struggles on with her son, Chung-wah. Ten years later, Chung-wah has grown up. He marries his lover, Yuk-mui, who has known him since childhood. Yuk-mui lost her parents early and lives with her aunt. Her aunt and cousin, Yuet-fong, mistreat her. Chung-wah promises her a life free from threats. Droughts force Chung-wah's family to abandon their home village. Soon, the Sino-Japanese War breaks out. Yuk-mui finds a bag of jewellery. After the war, the family returns to their village, purchases land and becomes prosperous. Chung-wah starts to lead a decadent life and is obsessed with Yuet-fong, who has become a prostitute. He detests his wife. Chun-hung comes home in a distressed state. Chung-wah refuses to accept him and chases him away. Chung-wah marries Yuet-fong. With Chung- wah's support, Yuet-fong treats Yuk-mui badly. Yuk-mui attempts suicide by jumping into a river. Luckily, Chun-hung saves her. A servant testifies that Yuet-fong framed Yuk-mui. Chung-wah is regretful and chases Yuet-fong away. He apologises to Yuk-mui and asks Chun-hung to stay. The family then lives happily thereafter.
