内容介绍 : | The fatuous Emperor Leirules the Chou Dynasty. He throws a faithful official in jail. Wanting to free his father from prison, the official's son Hung-tak persuades his lover Po-chi (who is also his father's adopted daughter) to enter the royal court to offer herself as an imperial concubine to the Emperor. It is meant to win the trust of the Emperor, with an intention to facilitate the release of the father. When the father is ultimately freed, Emperor Leihas given himself up to pleasure and unbridled license. He indulges in playing with Po-chi and neglects the state affairs. He even ignites the beacon fire to tease the dukes. When the latter dispatch troops to safeguard the Chou royal court, they realize they are being made fun of. The act incurs their displeasure. When the aliens from the north intrude through the border, Emperor Leicalls on the dukes to protect him by ordering the beacon fire to be ignited. But some dukes doubt whether the Emperor is again using this means to tease them to win the smile of Po-chi. So they refuse to send troops to assist. The aliens ultimately capture the royal city and kill Emperor Li. They are then expelled by Hung-tak and others. The Queen grants Po-chi to Hung-tak accordingly so that the two can get married. She also let Hung-tak control the military power to assist the successor. There permeates an atmosphere of a happy ending, after such a drastic happening. |
