备注 : | Actress Hung Sin Nui, 'I modelled the character on the mother of Brother Ma [Ma Si-tsang], who is known to us as Second Aunt Her marriage to her husband, a fop, hasn't been a happy one But she performs the duties of a dutiful and subservient wife and bears all the responsibilities without grudges She seeks work and becomes the sole breadwinner of the entire family while devoting herself to rearing her children properly I imitated Second Aunt's gesture, costumes and demeanour to act out the elderly mother in "A mother remembers"' (Extracted from Hung Sin Nui: An Autobiography, pp 70-71)Distributor Wong Cheuk-hon, 'There was great applause [after the preview] I said excitedly, "This film should not be shown in the Cantonese film circuit We should find a way to show it in the Western film circuit finally, the film was shown in the Roxy and Broadway theatres It ran for two weeks, but we needed Hung Sin Nui to go on stage This was one of those events which shook the film world at the time"' (A Life in Movies: The Memoirs of Wong Cheuk-hon, pp 61-62)Adapted from a Rediffusion Radio airwave novel |
