内容介绍 : | Ho Ah-gau, a pathological gambler, is several hundred dollars in debt. Seeing that her son is not getting anywhere in Macau, Gau's mother decides to spend her life savings to send her son to Malaya to make a fresh start. When Gau arrives in Malaya, he first starts working in a mine. Since it is a backbreaking job and gambling is not allowed at work, Gau leaves the mine in frustration. He then finds a job in Singapore working as a waiter in a rich man's club, where, by chance, he finds and returns the wallet belonging to a tycoon, Wong Tai-ming. Ming is impressed by his honesty and promises to help him with his career. In recognition of his virtue, Gau is renamed Yau-sing meaning 'honest friend' by the tycoon. On another occasion, Ming's only daughter, Ming-chu, is mugged while she is out shopping and Gau is injured in the process of repossessing her necklace. Chu, impressed by his bravery, immediately falls for him. Meanwhile, Gau's wife, So-ching, has been living in poverty in Macau since her husband left. Not hearing anything and receiving no support from her husband, and with her mother-in-law gravely ill, Ching, in desperation, turns to a rascal, Kam Choi, for financial help. Choi takes advantage of the situation and forces her to return the favour with her body. When the mother-in-law finds out, she jumps into a well to end her life in distress. However , a neighbour sympathising with Ching's situation, offers help by raising money for her search of her long-lost husband Gau in Southeast Asia. Ching's search is halted by the discovery of Gau's engagement to rich heiress Chu. Not only does Gau refuse to recognise his wife and son, a conspiracy to barter Ching off is underway. Gau's cousin Tsang Tai-sing tells Chu the truth and saves Ching from her plight. The fickle husband justly serves his sentence. Now released from jail, Gau expresses remorse and is pardoned by his wife. |
