内容介绍 : | In his home village Chan Sai-mei studies hard day and night for the imperial examination, hoping one day he can attain scholarly honour and an official rank. His beloved wife Chun Heung-lin takes great care of him. The two have a son and a daughter. The family leads a happy life together. As the date of the imperial examination is approaching , Mei parts with his wife for the capital city, quite reluctantly. Lin misses him a lot since he left. After years of waiting there is still no news from her husband. In the end, she comes to look for Mei in the capital city , bringing along her son and daughter. A kind-hearted innkeeper provides them shelter. Lin then realizes, after making inquires, the newly crowned Number One Scholar Mei is delegated to be the princess's consort. Mei disowns his wife Lin and their two children who come seeking for him in the capital. Prime Minister Wong mediates for Lin, he approaches Mei and asks him with the purpose of finding out the truth. Mei eventually gives himself away, moved by a sad song sung by Lin. Yet he stands firm and refuses to recognise his wife. To eradicate any disastrous aftermath, Mei callously dispatches his man Hon Kei to kill the mother and children. Hon commits suicide by cutting his own throat rather than indiscriminately slaughtering innocent people. Mei puts the blame on Lin for Hon's death. Lin enlists help from Judge Bao, Mei eventually obliged to admit his wrongdoing. To save her husband, the Princess seeks help from her Queen mother and this puts Pao in a difficult position. Pao righteously sentences the unfaithful husband to death. Lin is extremely grateful to Pao's action and in the end she brings her son and daughter back to her home village. |
