内容介绍 :	The Hui family is in financial straits despite putting on a bold front. The patriarch Chi-lai is obssessed with fame and gain and neglects the upbringing of his three children. The eldest son indulges in wine and women. His wife is timid and incompetent. The second son has the disposition of a dandy, excelling in drinking and pleasure-seeking. The youngest daughter is vain. Shortly afterwards, for the sake of his business Lai lets a lustful rich man approach his daughter. His second son is an idle drug -addict. His eldest son takes the advantage of his wife's delivery and rapes the maid. Knowing the incident, the second son makes use of the issue to threaten his elder brother for money. But after Lai knows the situation of his second son, he cannot afford to repay his gambling and drug debts. The son is downgraded to become a drug pusher and is forced to blackmail his father. The rich man gets angry and cuts all his trade affairs with Lai. All of a sudden, disasters are hanging over the Hui's family: the eldest son has made a loss in the business and the rich man demands the return of the debt. The unlucky maid is pregnant, she intents to commit suicide and she is saved. Lai has no choice but to declare himself bankrupt and the Hui's residence has to be auctioned. Before the members have ever moved out from the residence, it signifies the family's downfall and its members scatter. Lai has a heart stroke and he dies; the eldest son is arrested for embezzling company funds; even his virtuous wife leaves him; the second son resolves to turn over a new leaf with his sister before it is too late.
