内容介绍 :	Hsiao Tao is poor, her mother fell ill and died, so she sells her herself to get money for the burial of her mother. She is bought by an opera troupe owner, Hua Ming-chun, but his daughter is very difficult and abusive and often beats her up. Later on, the daughter steals all Hua’ s savings and elopes with her lover, so he is devastated. As the troupe needs to go on stage, he arranges for Tao to replace his daughter to play the lead in the opera, and she becomes instantly popular. Accidentally, Tao then meets up with Yen-ping, a man who had helped her three years previously. The two try to catch up with old times and say how much they had missed each other for the past three years. They then get married and live a very happy married life. Unfortunately, Tao's polio recurs and prevents her from moving. Time passes. It has been two years, her legs are not getting any better, and the couple has gone broke from paying medical bills. Tao feels grateful to Ping for taking care of her, but is saddened to be a burden on him. At one point, she tries to kill herself to end her misery. Ping and his friends then arrange for her to watch a performance by a group of disabled children, from which she realises that there are a lot of people less fortunate than her. She then participates in the show and sings for them, which wins great applause. At the end, when she tries to help one person up, she realises that her feet can move again. People are very happy for her.
