内容介绍 : | Wong Yat-fan has five daughters, brought up in the traditional way. His eldest daughter Wai-ha is filial and deferential; second daughter Wai-sum is willful and independent; third daughter Wai-bing is introversive and sentimental; fourth daughter Wai-king is vain and materialistic; and the youngest daughter Wai-chu is naive and innocent. The sisters' cousin Hok-man becomes a teacher at a nearby primary school. The sisters welcome his presence. Hok-man is attracted to Wai-bing and their relationship develops. Yat-fan throws a big birthday party for himself and invites rich businessman Mr Chan and his son, George, to come. His aim is to match George with his second daughter Wai-sum. But Wai-sum is in love with poor neighbour Lee Ming. To thwart her father's plans, Wai-sum elopes with Ming and registers their marriage. Yat-fan is thus forced to change his plan by matching Wai-king with George. Soon after their marriage, Wai-king becomes pregnant. The marriage is by no means a happy one because George is a philanderer. During a quarrel, George pushes Wai-king down the stairs. Wai-king suffers a miscarriage and dies as a result. Yat-fan is hard-hit by the incident and his health deteriorates. He is also becoming more mellowing and accepts Wai-sum's marriage to Ming. Later, Yat-fan dies. The four daughters are now free of shackles of feudalism and are seeking their own happy way of life. (Extracted from the film brochure.) |
