That night, while reading that book, Siu dreams that he has become Ling Kwai-hing, and his cousin has become Leung Tin-loi. Kwai-hing believes that his cousin Tin-loi's stone cellar is an obstacle to his ambition of becoming a high official. He wants to possess the property but the Leung family refuses to sell. Kwai-hing hires thugs to beat up Tin-loi and his brother Kwun-loi. Later, he colludes with a thief Lam Tai-yau to steal a jade flowerpot from the Leung home. Kwai-hing's actions are disapproved by his wife and sister Kwai-sin. His wife is also dismayed and later dies of despair after seeing Kwai-hing's adulterous moves.
