内容介绍 :	Ho Sau-fong lives with her widowed mother and younger brother Ming in an urban slum. Her mother is the breadwinner of the family and makes a living as a hairdresser. She wants her daughter to marry a rich husband therefore refuses to allow Sau-fong to work in a factory. Sau-fong develops an intimate relationship with Ko Keung, a mechanic living next door. Though Keung, a mechanic living next door. Though Keung is a helpful nighbour, Sau-fong's mother snubs the young man because he is poor. Through a matchmaker, the mother arranges for Sau-fong to become a concubine of a rich man Wong Kam-kin. Keung voices his opposition to the match, but Sau-fong is too meek and helpless to assert her independence, though she is unwilling to marry Kam-kin. She relents when her brother is injured in an accident, and her mother becomes ill. After becoming Kam-kin's concubine, Sau-fong suffers ill treatment from his wife and family. Kam-kin later becomes involved with Sau-fong's cousin who works as a waitress. Kam-kin's wife discovers the affair and seeks a settlement of scores with Wong, bringing along Sau-fong. Instead, the sympathising Sau-fong helps her cousin to kick the couple out of the house. Sau- fong is reunited with her sick mother. Before she dies, the mother asks Keung to look after Sau-fong and her brother. (Extracted from a newspaper synopsis.)
