内容介绍 : | During the Sino-Japanese War, Guangzhou is in dire straits. Nationalist official Tong Yiu-nam still lives a decadent life with his second wife, while his son Ching-ping and daughter Ching- fai are engaged in patriotic activities. Ching-ping is in love with Yiu-nam's adopted daughter Ah Lan. Yiu-nam collaborates with the Japanese to arrest underground anti-Japanese fighters. As Ching-ping successfully helps a comrade Cheung Tit to escape, he is confined at home. While trying to help Ching-ping escape by stealing the door keys, Ah Lan is raped by Yiu-nam. When Ah Lan finally helps Ching-ping to escape, they have to painfully bid each other farewell. As Guangzhou is eventually occupied, the Tong family moves to Qujiang. Ching-ping is in Lechang, while Ching-fai leaves home to work in a child care centre. Ah Lan is pregnant and is discovered by Mrs Tong. Yiu-nam orders his secretary to do away with Ah Lan by pushing her into the river. Fortunately, a fisherman saves Ah Lan and she goes to rely on Ching-fai for assistance. Ching-ping is later arrested and Ching-fai attempts in vain to have him released from jail. After giving birth to a son, Ah Lan works in the prison in order to take care of Ching-ping. When the war situation becomes more critical, a promoted Yiu-nam orders to relocate Ching-ping to Chongqing. Ching-ping refuses to write a letter of remorse and remains in jail and is tortured. After the victory of the war, Ching-ping is released. He is reunited with Ah Lan, her child and Ching-fai, whereby he learns of his father's evil deeds . Yiu-nam is now in Guangzhou serving as a special commissioner on war take-over matters. Ching-ping confronts his father, who pulls out a gun to shoot at him. Ah Lan in turns hits dead the old man but is killed in the ensuing commotion. Filled with sorrow, Ching-ping takes Ah Lan's son with him and leaves for the north. (Based on viewing of the film) |
