内容介绍 : | Lee Chi-keung engages in speculative business and is bankrupted after an investment failure. Creditor Wong Wai-yin seized his unit. Chi-keung falls into a depression and dies. Wai-yin's godson Kim-fei engages in smuggling activities and is in love with Chi-keung's eldest daughter Ying-mei, but Wai-yin has his own craving for Ying-mei and does his best to separate the two lovers. Wai-yin soon falls victim to his own speculative dealings and he too is bankrupted and must rely on Kim- fei. Both of them are later arrested and sent to jail. In jail, Wai-yin falls ill. Before he dies, he tells Kim-fei the truth about how he deliberately tried to separate him from Ying-mei. Kim-fei makes a vow to himself to find Ying-mei after he serves the sentence After Chi-keung's death, his eldest son Tin-cheung becomes a hawker but his inexperience costs him all his capital. He is later employed in a private bank where the boss' daughter Yee-wan notices him. The other children Ying-mei, Tin-yau and Ying-yin sing on the streets to make ends meet but repeatedly encounter insults and humiliations. Ying-mei decides to stay at home to help her mother glue paper boxes to make a living. Tin-yau becomes a rickshaw puller while Ying-yin becomes a dance hall girl and is subsequently raped. Tin-yau subsequently dies of frustrations. To improve life, Tin-cheung decides to marry Yee-wan. But the marriage fails when Yee-wan does not get along with Tin-cheung's family. The two divorce. Kim-fei comes out of jail and finds Ying-mei. Reunion at last, the family resolves to make a new beginning by working in a mine. (Extracted from the film brochure.) |
