内容介绍 : | Leung Kwong loses his job and becomes a gambler. He has no money to organise a big bash to celebrate his mother's birthday. His wife has to pawn her clothes to raise funds for a proper celebration. In the evening of his mother's birthday, relatives and friends arrive. Suet Lei, the wife of Kwong's younger brother, is also a gambler. But the mother, a critical fusspot, treats her courteously because her family is rich. She, however, always picks bones with Kwong's hard-working wife. Even when Suet-lei's son, Johnny, eats some over-cooked rice, and the mother blames it on Kwong's wife. An argument breaks out between the mother and Kwong's wife. The party ends on an unhappy note. Leung Kwong, out of job, cannot afford to pay her daughter Siu-zhen's school fees. He also owes rascal Lau Mong $300. He has no alternative but to mortgage his house. Later, Mong and his gang seizes the house. Teacher Ho, who formerly lived in Kwong's house, comes to the assistance of the family. He introduces a job to Kwong. But he finds the job an inferior one and rejects the offer. Mong's gang continues to harass the family. To avoid the gang, Kwong's wife and the daughter stay with the teacher, Mr Ho, but this is mistaken by Kwong that his wife is having an affair with Ho. One day, Kwong learns that Suet Lei, who also owes Mong great sums of money, is tortured to death. Kwong is now awakened and tries to redeem himself. He makes up to his wife again. Kwong's mother also realises that she has mistreated her daughter-in-law. (Based on viewing of the film.) |
