内容介绍 : | There are three gangster leaders in Shanghai in the 30s: Luk Yuet-sang,Yuen Siu -kwan and Wong Chuen-wing. They are smugglers and drug dealers. Yet they build up a strong connection with Kuomintang. To show his patriotism, Luk organizes his society to fight against Japanese invasion, but his people are defeated. When Shanghai is being invaded, he meets his ex-lover Mang in backstage. They spend a romantic night together, in spite of the riot outside. Luk is caught in the following morning and is saved by his follower Tso Shan and his dog. Yuen surrenders to the Japanese and tries to persuade Wong to work for the Japanese. To turn down the offer skillfully, Wong pretends he has gone insane but is insulted by Yuen. Luk and Wong send Tso to kill Yuen. Tso is arrested after he has achieved his mission. Luk and Wong secretly look after him when he is in prison. When the Japanese army surrenders, General Ku of Kuomintang agrees to appoint Luk as the Mayor of Shanghai but he does not keep his promise. Luk's adopted son Ng Keung even arrests Luk's beloved son. Luk wants to become the Chairman of the parliament to strengthen his power. Although he wins in the election, General Ku tells him that the party will not accept a chairman who is a gangster. He therefore reluctantly resigns from the post and leaves Shanghai with Mang . He has been sick since he settles down in Hong Kong. On the wedding day with Mang, his health turns worse. When he is dying, he reveals his sorrow of being used by Kuomintang. |
