内容介绍 :	Zhu Meimei is a stage actress in love with her director Lu Sha. Lu however is married with a son. There is pressure on him to end the affair with Zhu but the actress soon becomes pregnant. Unwilling to have an abortion, Zhu gives up her career, then at its peak, and leaves Shanghai with Lu Sha to start a new life elsewhere. Zhu gives birth to a daughter, named Haiyan. Lu Sha is unable to find work and their life degenerates. After one of their arguments, Lu Sha proposes separation. With the help of a friend, Zhu Meimei returns to Shanghai with her daughter and resumes her career. She returns the gold pendant that Lu has given her during their elopment. Feeling rejected, Lu Sha attempts to return to his wife but she too rejects him. Lu thus commits suicide by swallowing the pendant, made in the shape of a heart. Haiyan grows up, inheriting from her parents a love for music. She meets and falls in love with a young man, Xuecheng, unaware that he is her stepbrother. Paying no heed to her mother's opposition, Haiyan sets her marriage date. Shocked by this news, Zhu Meimei collapses and lies on her deathbed. Now, her best friend Wang Qiong tells Haiyan the complicated relationships of her parents. On her deathbed, Zhu Meimei exhorts Haiyan and Xuecheng not to repeat her mistake of following emotions with lasting regret.(Based on viewing the film)
