内容介绍 :	Lam Kai-fun lives with her mother in the Wong Village. Her uncle, Leung Chung-do, and his son, Siu-chung in Shanghai come to visit and clean the graves of their ancestors. The cousins Kai-fun and Siu-chung fall in love. Chung-do happily arranges for their marriage before returning to Shanghai with his son. Soon after, the village is raided by bandits and Kai-fun is raped. The feudal morals of the time compel Kai-fun to keep her shameful secret. Hearing the aftermath of the raid, Siu-chung brings Kai-fun to the city and goes through with the marriage, unaware of Kai-fun's misfortune. Unable to reveal her secret directly to Siu-chung, Kai-fun writes it down in a letter, which falls into the hands of Siu-chung's mischievous brother. It is only until their wedding night that Siu-chung realises Kai-fun is no longer a virgin, but the sympathetic Siu-chung does not blame Kai-fun. However, the matter is brought to the attention of Chung-do who castigates Kai-fun for not being chaste. Kai-fun, unable to remain silent, reacts by reprimanding Chung-do for his keeping of more than his own wife, not to name other concubines, and unfairly puts the responsibility of chastity onto women. However, the stubborn Chung-do stands by his ground. Kai-fun and Siu-chung move out of the house to start life anew in another village. (Extracted from the film synopsis)
