内容介绍 :	Li A'chang is a poor tailor whose only wish in life is to see his son, Shuhua, enter university. Shuhua succeeds in entering university but is looked down upon by his rich classmates. He does voluntary work and meets and falls in love with Lin Minli. Her father is a civil servant who wants his daughter to marry into a rich family. Hence, he frowns on Minli's relationship with Shuhua. Among her classmates is Yang Kailing, a playboy . He bullies Shuhua and makes passes at Minli. He even pulls strings to have her father promoted in order to win her favour. Minli remains unmoved, but Shuhua is cowed by Kailing's display of authority and power. The Japanese invade the country as the students are about to graduate. Student movements are organised to resist the Japanese, with Minli in the forefront leading a group to propagandise the war effort. She meets opposition from the student association led by Kailing. Shuhua graduates with distinction but due to his lack of connections , is unable to find a job. In addition, he is consistently put down by Kailing. Piqued, Shuhua follows Minli up north.
