内容介绍 : | Millionaire Koo Tai-lin advertises that he will give a dowry of half his fortune to any man who marries his ugly daughter. Lee Chun-choi, a married man in his fifties, responds to the advertisement, but is rejected because of his dishevelled appearance. Artist Kong Fung, several months' rent in arrears, is persuaded by his friend Shing Sun-yuk to answer the advertisement. However, when he calls at the Koo home, the family is away and he thinks the maid, Ah Ling, is the Koo daughter. They date and fall in love. When Fung calls again at the Koo home, Ah Ling is too afraid to appear. The real Koo daughter meets him and sets her heart on marrying him. Fung leaves in a huff. Tai-lin, in fact, wants Ah Ling for himself. His wife, to stop her husband's adulterous desire, adopts Ah Ling as goddaughter. Meanwhile, Fung fakes his death to arouse interest in his paintings. A Taoist priest, actually Chun-choi in disguise, is called in to pray for him. At this point, Ah Ling and the Koo family come calling. Believing that Fung is dead, the Koo daughter asks to marry Chun-choi. However, the scheme is exposed and Fung is unable to sell his paintings. Tai-lin is moved by Fung's sincerity and allows Ah Ling to marry him. On the wedding day, Chun-choi's wife turns up and foils his marriage to the Koo daughter. Fortunately, the servant Ah Fuk comes forward to profess his love for her. The double wedding proceeds without a hitch. (Extracted from the film brochure.) |
