内容介绍 :	Pak Fu-yung and her mother run a dessert shop. Fu-yung's beauty and melodious voice attract customers and make her enjoy a brisk business. However, Fu-yung also solicits the unwanted attention of local bully Wu Shan. When Wu Shan seizes the chance to philander with Fu-yung, a young customer Luk Yi-hung defends her. Yi-hung has come from a nearby county and is in town to visit relatives. He stays at his uncle Chiu On's home and is preparing to leave for overseas studies. His cousin Yuk-lan secretly admires him but he has instead fallen in love with Fu-yung, and even helps her tackle the rent problem in order to avoid further harassment from Shan. The lovers swear a private pact of engagement by a lotus pond. Meanwhile, Shan has persuaded On that Fu-yung is a dishonourable gold-digger. On therefore bans Yi-hung from going out. Yi-hung is supposed to attend a secret rendezvous with Fu-yung at midnight , but he fails to keep the appointment because he has to rush back home to see his ailing mother. Meanwhile, Shan exerts pressure on Fu-yung, threatening her to take back the premises of her shop. Fu-yung writes a letter to Yi -hung pleading for help, but the letter is intercepted by Yi-hung's father. Unimpressed by her humble background, Yi-hung's father forces Fu-yung to renounce the private engagement pact with his son. A despondent Fu-yung seeks to drown herself in the lotus pond but is dissuaded by Ah Lai, a waitress of the shop. When Yi-hung returns, he is led to believe that his beloved one has killed herself. A saddened Yi-hung finally learns the truth. His parents are moved by their touching love story and allow them to tie the knot. (Extracted from newspaper synopses.)
