内容介绍 : | Charlie is a street tramp in love with the blind Flower Girl. He saves a drunken man from plunging into the sea and the two men become fast friends. He turns out to be Wong Pak-man, a millionaire who can only recognise Charlie when drunk. Every request that Charlie asks for is granted in his intoxicated state, but when sober, Pak-man cannot recognise Charlie. Humour persists when Pak-man becomes drunk again, recognises Charlie and pulls him into a dance hall to indulge in a night of revelry, when Charlie grabs a dance hall hostess away from her partner and eating strips of paper that are mistaken for noodles. Charlie asks to borrow some money from the millionaire, and rides in his limousine to visit the Flower Girl. The Flower Girl had lost her sight due to constant weeping as a result of mourning her father's death during the war. To help her, Charlie had found a job as a boxer in a gym but is being knocked senseless by the coach. Next, Charlie becomes a cook and is fired for mixing up ingredients in a dish. The Flower Girl is moved by Charlie's sympathy, but Charlie is too shy to proclaim his love. Charlie succeeds in borrowing a handsome amount of money from Pak-man, and helps to catch a thief in the millionaire's house . When the police arrive, Pak-man sobers up and cannot recognise Charlie. Thus, Charlie is mistaken for the thief and is taken away by the police. Charlie escapes and gives the money to the Flower Girl, after which he surrenders himself to the police. In his mind, imprisonment means a shelter and meals. After his release, the Flower Girl has recovered her sight and has opened a shop selling flowers. Charlie is shilly-shallying before the shop when the Flower Girl comes out to give alms to Charlie. She recognises him as her benefactor. Feeling inferior, Charlie is about to run away but is stopped by the Flower Girl. (Based on viewing of the film.) |
