内容介绍 :	During the reign of Jiayou in Song dynasty, a songstress Jiao Guiying provides relief to a distressed scholar Wang Kui on the road. Impressed by Kui's literary talents, Guiying devotes her energy and time to taking care of the young man and funds his lessons. Before sitting for the imperial examinations, Kui exchanges a marriage vow with Guiying in front of the statue of the God of Sea. Kui passes the examinations with flying colours, winning the honour of being the Number One Scholar and becomes a high official and indeed an eligible son-in-law of the Prime Minister. Kui's character changes completely after he ascends to his new status. Meanwhile, Guiying has received no news of Kui. When she finally receives a letter from him, it is to tell her that she has been jilted. A despondent Guiying attempts to hang herself, but is rescued by her maid. Hearing rumours that Guiying has committed suicide, Kui is upset and conscience-stricken. He suffers a relapse of his old illness, seeing apparitions of Guiying in nightmares. Wang Kui finally vomits blood and dies, to be mourned by Guiying. (Extracted from the film brochure)
