内容介绍 : | Seventy-eight-year-old Tseng Tso Choi has been writing calligraphy on the streets of Kowloon for over fourty years. The self proclamied ' King of Kowloon ', is one of the city's most intriguing citizens and in spite of old age, poverty and physical disability, Tsang persevers in expressing himself with his ink brush, believing that he is the rightful heir to land in Kowloon. King of Kowloon is a half hour documentary about Tseng's life as well as the city he lives in. From interviews with 'the man on the street', to candid discussions with Tseng himself, the film examines the story behind his writing both the humour and the poignancy. Shot over a period of one year, King of Kowloon, is the first full length documentary about this unforgettable individual. Short mainly in Cantonese, it is a result of over one year's work by Hong Kong based, first time filmmakers, Marin Egan and Joanne Shen. |
备注 : | Director's Note : Tseng Tsoi Choi was cooperative throughout the making of the film, because of the nature of his work he would concentrate totally on his painting, so he would hardly even notice the presence of the camera crew We conducted most of the interviews on cassette tape before we filmed them, this really helped when putting together a structure for the documentary and allowed the shooting outside the interviews to happen spontaneously ie, the police scene It was a hung learning curve for everybody on the produciton team particuarly for myself and Joanne Making documentaries in a language that is not your own can prove very challenging and it means the research and preproduction play an absolutely vital role in the final product |
