内容介绍 : | To Man-tong suffers the ill-treatment of his stepmother and finds solace in the company of the maid Yuen Siu-kuk. The stepmother propels the lovers to get married so that her natural son Man-tai may ask for the hand of Chow Kit-ping, daughter of the prime minister, to whom Man-tong is betrothed. When her repeated attempts to inflict harm on Man-tong end in futility, the stepmother sets fire on the wooden shed in which the newlywed couple take shelter. Because of the changing wind direction, the fire spreads to the ancestral house, destroying all the properties kept there. Man-tai saves his brother and wife amid the chaos. Chow bestows a hairpin upon Man-tong for his imperial examinations in the capital. Lodging with the family of the prime minister, the stepmother receives the same harsh treatment by Chow, who penalises her with hard labour and lodging in a shabby shed. The stepmother welcomes the return of the newly crowned Number One Scholar Man-tong with open arms, but becomes the subject of mockery herself. She shows her sincere repentance and is gladly accepted into the family by the two couples. (Quoted from DVD cover) |
