内容介绍 : | Landowners Si Yiu-choi and Ku Hon-chung, both wealthy misers, are foes rather than friends. District magistrate Chin Yu-ming gets wind that Grand Tutor Choi has prepared a dowry of two thousand taels to the prospective husband of his unsightly daughter Fa-kiu and goes on to arrange a blind date for the sons of the two families with the bride. The matchmaker is bombarded with lavish gifts from the elders, who try every trick in their bag to transform their unrefined and slow-witted sons into presentable grooms, but fail. With the candidates shown the door by Choi, Fa-kiu finally professes her affection for Chin. Embittered about their frustrated dreams, Si and Ku are again at loggerheads over a penny they find on the street. In the heat of the argument, Si swallows the penny and ends up in court with Ku where they get their just deserts—harsh beating and heavy fines. |
